Shocking! The gruesome murder of Chris Msando the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Acting ICT Director leaves the nation speechless and bereaved!
Kituo Cha Sheria shares its deepest sympathies with the family of the deceased and hereby states that any Criminal intimidation to frustrate the electoral outcome ought to be resisted with all instruments of the law. The disappearance and subsequent death of a high profile official from the country’s electoral body a week to the General Elections must not and should not be treated leniently.
The Deceased had gone missing on the 28th of July, 2017 and his physically mutilated remains were found in Kiambu County and delivered to the Nairobi City Mortuary.
The unfortunate series of events leading to his death has underlying implications on the security of the country and lives of the innocent people. It also brings to light that free and fair election will be difficult to achieve by peaceful means.
Kituo Cha Sheria wishes to categorically state that the increasing unfortunate incidents experienced currently, as the impending elections approach, cannot be allowed to continue. Kituo Cha Sheria therefore, urges the Kenyan government to take prompt measures to end the impunity protecting those responsible for political killings.
We urge the government to come out and ensure the safety of all Kenyans and that of all electoral officers of the IEBC, to encourage confidence towards a fair and free and credible election. The Government has to provide the electoral body with the necessary support so that free and fair elections may be realised come 8th of August, 2017 as enshrined in Article 81 of the Constitution.
UCHAGUZI WA AMANI NA UWAZI.
