KITUO HOLDS COMMUNITY LEGAL AWARENESS FORUM IN KIBRA, NAIROBI COUNTY
Kituo Cha Sheria successfully conducted 3-day legal awareness fora which started on Wednesday 18th 2019 and ended Friday 20th 2019 at the Kibra DC’s grounds in Kibra Constituency. The activities focused mainly on two areas; labour laws and the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) applicable laws.
The forums had the main aim of increasing community awareness of labour and SGBV related laws. The first two days activities focused mainly on labour laws where those in attendance were taken through the basic law provisions with regards to labour issues with Friday’s activity focusing on Sexual and Gender Based Violence where participants were educated on the legal processes when such incidences occur and also on reducing incidences of violence in the Kibera informal settlement area.
Participants engaged with the Kituo advocates present led by Ms. Martha Ogutu while presenting real life experiences and exchanging opinions and ideas. The activity which was supported by the Dutch Embassy in Kenya also provided an opportunity for Kituo to create awareness on the free SMS platform for legal advice ‘M-Haki-Haki Mkononi’.
Regular legal awareness fora are usually conducted by Kituo to ensure that citizens are empowered on different matters regarding law and in order to realize the organization’s vision of a society of justice and equity for all.
