Below are the former Executive Directors of Kituo Cha Sheria – Legal Advice Center 

Angote Nyausi Gertrude is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She is a social transformation advocate and has been in the forefront in litigating, agitating and advocating towards the vision of access to justice for all. Angote is currently a Council Member of the Law Society of Kenya, and an LLM Student at the University of Nairobi. She is a trained trial advocacy teacher from the University of Washington. She is currently engaged as faculty member and a part time litigation lecturer at the Kenya School of Law. Angote was admitted to the bar on 12th of October 2006. She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya of 6 years standing. She specializes in the area of Human Rights, by choice and believes in equal access to justice and upholding

Hon. Nyokabi is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya who graduated from the University of Nairobi with her Bachelor of Laws degree. Her tenure as Kituo’s ED came at a momentous period in Kenya’s history in terms of Human Rights issues and the post-election violence after the 2007 general elections. This saw Kituo’s increased community partnerships and especially legal empowerment and advocacy for victims who are mostly the poor and vulnerable in society.
Hon. Nyokabi is currently a lawmaker in the National Assembly elected as the Women Representative for Nyeri County in the 2013 general elections.

Dr. Ekuru is a constitutional lawyer and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, and a partner in the law firm of Ekuru Kabage Nyamathwe & Co. Advocates; he has taught constitutional & administrative Law at the University of Warwick, UK and at the Kenya School of Law, Nairobi; he has lectured on the Law of Refugees & IDPs at the School & Faculty of Law, University of Nairobi and at the East African School on Refugees & Humanitarian Affairs.
He previously directed the now defunct Committee of Experts (CoE) that put together the new Constitution of Kenya 2010 and continue to write his memoirs on the constitution building process in Kenya.
He also chair of the seven-member panel that picked commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Dr. Ekuru Aukot was the immediate former Director & ex-officio member of the Committee of Experts on the Review of the Constitution of Kenya. He is a consultant for various organisations and governments in the region on matters policy and constitutionalism.

Mr. Ndubi is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and human rights defender of known repute. He has represented clients in the Kenyan judiciary in matters of constitutional and human rights law and criminal law. While the Executive Director at Kituo, Mr. Ndubi built capacity in pro bono legal services, alternative dispute resolution and public interest litigation. He is an eminent member of Kenya’s civil society and is currently the director at Haki Focus.

1995-2000

Jane Weru is a lawyer and holds a Master’s Degree in NGO Management from the London School of Economics. She graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Law degree and started her career in law as an associate in a pro-bono legal service before joining Kituo Cha Sheria-The Legal Advice Centre as a legal aid officer in 1994. She was appointed Executive Director in 1995 and led Kituo towards focus on public interest litigation on behalf of poor communities threatened with forceful evictions and violent demolitions.
Jane has since been the Executive Director of Pamoja Trust, and has served as team leader for the Kenya Railway Relocation Action Plan for the Ministry of Transport and the World Bank. She is the Executive Director and founder member of Akiba Mashinani Trust, a Board Member of the Slum/Shack Dwellers International (SDI), an Ashoka Fellow and a member of the National Task Force for the preparation of the Community Land Bill and the Evictions and Resettlement Bill.
