Governance Justice and Rule of Law

Goal: To strengthen democratic governance, legal frameworks, and human rights protections by enhancing access to justice, civic space, institutional accountability, and the rule of law.

Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya (CoK) sets out the national values and principles of governance. Further, the Constitution sets the framework and timelines for a series of institutional and legal reforms to be realized through constitutional implementation. The objective is to consolidate the rule of law, democracy, human rights, transparency, accountability and good governance.

KITUO understands that promoting good governance and the rule of law in Kenya is essential for sustainable development, social justice, and democratic stability. KITUO supports interventions aimed at ensuring that power is exercised fairly, public resources are managed responsibly, and citizens’ rights are protected. To achieve this, KITUO is involved in promoting the rule of law by participating in and influencing public discourse on matters of policy and legislative reforms at the county and national levels. KITUO champions accountability in the implementation of existing legal frameworks and lobbies for strict adherence to the law. KITUO identifies pathways for amplifying the voices of communities from the grassroots in policy and decision-making processes. Stakeholder engagements to discuss policy gaps and reviews are supported to ensure that decision-making processes are inclusive.
